REPLICATED/REMEDIATED OBJECT DESIGN Week 4

Megan Janett March 21, 2023 Making the Mould This week I took the 3D printed model and casted a mould for it. I made a box using laser cut acrylic with one side having my half vase attached to it. I poured that half, let it sit and de-moulded it. Then with a bigger box cast the other half.  It took me three attempts to get it right. The first time I did not use the right kind of plaster so it did not set. SO I had to dump it out and remake the mould. The second time I mixed it in the bowl for too long and it solidified too fast. It caused a passive bubble in the mould, which I tried to repair but ended up recasting in the end. Finally the third time I succeeded! Now I just wait for it to dry and can pour in the slip cast.

Megan Janett March 13, 2023 Printing the Vase  This week I am preparing my document to be 3D printed. This will be used as the base of my plaster mold. I had to rotate the vase a few times to ensure no edges were undercut.  Eventually I put the problem area at the back so that the form could just be pulled straight out. Before I tried to put it on the cut line and found that it would not line up, and caused a lot of undercuts since the pyramids weren't aligned vertically. Here is is all pulled apart. In the middle of the box is the complete vase that will be printed. The two half boxes will be what the casting mold will look like. And the wired pieces on either side is to ensure there are no undercuts.  Here’s the print!!  It printed in about eight hours as I double walled it. It turned out really well, with only a couple breaks/holes in the mesh. Now on to the next step of casting and making the mould!

Megan Janett March 6, 2023 Splitting the Object This week I took my final rendering of my vase and tried to split it to see what the cast would look like. But when I tried to Boolean difference it, it did not work. I tried to rotate the vase incase it had something to do with the orientation I had chosen. I also tried to mess with the settings in each individual command to see if that would fix anything. When that did not work I went to the internet to see if someone else had the same issue. I tried those tutorials as well but still kept getting the same results. I am not sure what other options there are to fix it. I was able to split the outside box, but for some reason I am unable to split the inner vase so that I can Boolean difference it. The warning I am getting is that "Intersection curve ends at a naked edge" and I have no idea what that means or how to fix it. What I found said to use the join tool instead but that didn't do anything.

REPLICATED/REMEDIATED OBJECT DESIGN

Megan Janett February 27, 2023 Replicated Object Design  For this project I wanted to play around with texture. When brainstorming I was playing around with repeating patterns and overlapping designs. Finally I came across a tutorial on how to make a triangle sheet texture and thought that would be cool to place on a vase. In the last project I played with abnormal shapes and twisting of the object. For this one I wanted to make it more simple, so I went with a normal cylindrical vase and wrapped a triangle texture around it.  While messing around with it I discovered that it does not quite line up with eat other on the seam. But if I were to cut it in half would that even matter? As I could just use the same side twice or mirror it so the pattern would line up. I was messing with the depth of the triangles and how much they extended outwards from the cylinder but I could not figure out how to make it go to the depth I wanted it to. I tried changing the range on each slider to see if i
