REPLICATED/REMEDIATED OBJECT DESIGN

Image
Megan Janett February 27, 2023 Replicated Object Design  For this project I wanted to play around with texture. When brainstorming I was playing around with repeating patterns and overlapping designs. Finally I came across a tutorial on how to make a triangle sheet texture and thought that would be cool to place on a vase. In the last project I played with abnormal shapes and twisting of the object. For this one I wanted to make it more simple, so I went with a normal cylindrical vase and wrapped a triangle texture around it.  While messing around with it I discovered that it does not quite line up with eat other on the seam. But if I were to cut it in half would that even matter? As I could just use the same side twice or mirror it so the pattern would line up. I was messing with the depth of the triangles and how much they extended outwards from the cylinder but I could not figure out how to make it go to the depth I wanted it to. I tried changing the range on each slider to see if i

ALGORITHMIC SURFACE MODELLING + ANIMATION

Megan Janett February 13, 2023 Algorithmic Surface Modelling This week we explored algorithmic surface modelling. I chose to use a donut shape to base my design off of. It provides two surfaces that are parallel to each other for the shapes to follow along. The main issue I faced was trying to assign multiple colours to the different object in grasshopper. I knew how to do it in Rhino, but I assumed by changing the colours in the bounding box and then baking it in rhino would cause them all to change. But I guess the renderings do not transfer over. I also tried to to split the shapes and assign different colours within Rhino but that did not work either. In the end I had to just use one colour. Here is the side animation. I really like the first part where you can see a big difference in the shape changing compared to the end where it looks busy. Here is a top view of another animation. I like this one the best.

MILESTONE PROJECT 1: STACKED SLICES MODEL WEEK 2

Megan Janett February 6, 2023 Stacked Slices This week I focused on finalizing my vase. I ran into a few issues. When I went to go divide it into horizontal strips I realized that I needed to add a centre cylinder in order to make the outer thickness of the vase. I tried to figure out how to connect the cylinder to the vase but had no luck. I am meeting with the tutor for some help in figuring it out. I also added the right dimensions to it.  I have decided to use 1/8th inch baltic birch wood. I have some left over from previous projects and the outside is dyed purple. I think it will make a cool contrast between the raw wood and the coloured wood when stacked since they layers will be slightly offset. The plan is to cut them in the next couple days and then assemble it. The finished product will be added here. I'll start by showing you the final piece! The sizing turned out to be perfect. I originally based the design and the size of it around these lego flowers as I didn't h
