MILESTONE PROJECT 1: STACKED SLICES MODEL

Image
Megan Janett January 31, 2023 Stacked Slices Model For this project I will be creating a model that will then be sliced into layers and cut to made a 3D model. This first week will be focused on ideation of what I'd like to create. I think it would be cool to create an abstract vase for some fake flowers I have in my room.  I'll also playa round with some abstract shapes. Then next week I will pick the one I'll fabricate and add the layers to it. As far as materials go I think I will used either wood or cardboard. I also have some matting board which I think would look cool. It is quite thin, but relatively strong. So the layers would be less chunky and closer together compared to the wood. The wood may give it a harsher, more jagged look.  With the first two I was playing around with some more simpler forms to try and understand the program a little bit more. But it just wasn't what I was looking for. They looked too boring and uniformed. So I decided to find a differ

Animation

Megan Janett January 24, 2023 Animation Here is an expanding mushroom!! It took a while to figure out but overall I think it was a successful animation. I had to restart a few times as I could not figure out how to make the dome on top in grasshopper. After following a tutorial I was able to figure out how to make it and animate it. The last issue I had was making it look realistic and adding a mushroom pattern to the top part. I had to stick with just the plain red. Here is a screenshot of the grasshopper file. It took a while to figure out how to connect all the sliders together while maintaining the proportions. To be honest, this assignment was a challenge. It made sense in the 2D world when it was explained in class, but as soon as I began messing with it in the 3D world things got confusing. I began with a simple shape and managed to get that to do what I wanted. But my goal is to make a mushroom that squishes down and then reverts back to its original size. Ive figured out the

My First Definition - Megan Janett

Megan Janett OBDF 310 Jan. 16, 2023 MY FIRST DEFINITION Hey! Welcome to my blog.  I've made a donut. After doing the tutorials I wanted to play around with closed shapes. So I thought a donut would be a good challenge. The dough part was relatively easy. I made the top and bottom half separately. The top was quick. But the bottom I had to figure out how to mirror it and have the curves face downwards. For the icing instead of a circle I used wavy lines slightly bigger than the circles I used for the dough.  The biggest issue I ran into was the shape was not complete when rendered. There is a hole in both shapes and I am not sure how to fix that. Im sure there is a simple command I could add to fill the hole and complete the shape.  Also I found this kind of funny. When I set my design in place i had to use the bake command, meaning I had to "Bake" my donut.  Here are the tutorial progress pictures. I kept having the issue of when I pressed the spacebar command it would sh
